Aesir Undying
Aesir Undying is a mock video game concept set in the world of ancient Norse mythology. This 2D sidescroller roguelike draws inspiration from titles like Hollow Knight, Dead Cells, Hades, and Enter the Gungeon. Borrowing my favorite elements from these games, I set off to create a story-rich, replayable experience for players to explore..

Aesir Undying
Game Cover
The art for Aesir Undying was developed through over 190 concept sketches. Over the course of 5 months, I refined designs for the cover, protagonists, bosses, lairs, minions, and weapons into the works you see here. I learned an incredible amount during this conceptual phase! For those interested, the link below leads to some of the original sketches and behind-the-scenes material.
Protagonists
In this game, players could choose to be one of four protagonists: Vegeir, Sigri, Katla, or Einar. Each of them has died yet something - or someone - calls them back from the dead. With new bodies and newfound powers, they journey through a world teeming with monsters and bosses, eventually confronting the force behind it all
Bosses
I created four unique bosses for the players to go up against. They vary in creature type and design, and each of them are equipped with a paired lair design that fits their themes as well.
Boss Lairs
The lairs are proportioned to be setup for a side-scrolling platformer with lengthened horizontal dimensions. They are also placed in the corresponding order that connects them to their paired bosses above.
Enemies
Throughout the game, the player will encounter enemies while they continue through different stages and areas. These common enemies will be encountered more often than the bosses and are less unique. I designed four possible enemies for the characters to encounter and fight throughout different stages of the game
